"What was originally going to be a Letterman-esque top ten list has turned into 15." We attempted to be pithy in our "Top 10," which we had to increase by 50%. We went from succinct, to verbose. Well, here's another good reminder - Don't misrepresent yourself, either in your description/essays or in your photo. You are who you are. There is always a way to put a positive spin or light, without lying (just ask any politician).
Jay Leno reminded us of profile misrepresentation (we have done other articles where we discuss this problem). Here is a quote from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, from November 1, 2007:
"A 24-year-old hospital worker from Teaneck, N.J., has been arrested for having sex with the corpse of a 92-year-old woman. Well, in his defense, he claims she looked a lot better in her online photo."

I had a chick show up on a date with her dog... Turns out, the dog was cuter than the girl! You wouldn't think so based on the obviously airbrushed photo she posted. It was probably 8 years old and 50 pounds earlier. I have thinning hair and have the guts to post an honest picture. I expect the same! Well said Mr. Leno.
Same thing, just reversed. Guy was 25lbs heavier and had acne. Also his hair was short and his picture showed wavy long locks. Oh well.
Had a girl show up with dark glasses. I figured, ok, fashion statement? Finally got the nerve to ask her to take off her glasses so I could see her. She hesitated and took off her glasses. She had 1 eye! Beat that!
Actually, the only story I've got is one where the picture just looked really, really good. When I met her, she was really unattractive, but I can't say the picture "misrepresented" what she looked like. It was clearly a recent picture, a 'candid' one at that (not a shopped portrait or anything), and looked just like her. it was just the best possible picture imaginable. Go figure.
Needless to say, the date didn't go anywhere, but I couldn't feel duped or lied to. It was, in fact, her.
Yeah, that will happen sometimes - part of the cost of doing business, I suppose. I am always a bit suspicious when a girl only has face shots (hey Beavis, he said face shots... hehehe) on her profile. Then again, I have also had situations where the girl looked much better than her pictures. You never know until you actually meet. Bottom line - if you feel there is potential, agree to meet for tea for about an hour. It's low-key, fun and inexpensive. If things are working out, you can take it from there. If not, you (or her) can bail with minimal time (and money) wasted.
